1. Check Scanner Compatibility
- Please make sure your scanner supports the Keyboard Wedge (KBW) Interface. Keyboard Wedge Interface emulates keystrokes while scanning.
- It can have both USB or wireless connection (Bluetooth or Wi-Fi)
- Barcodes must conform to the international standard used in Kladana, typically EAN-13 or EAN-8, but other common formats like UPC or Code128 are often supported.
2. Connecting the Scanner
USB Scanner:
- Plug the scanner into your computer’s USB port.
- Most USB barcode scanners are plug-and-play and do not require drivers. If the scanner doesn’t work automatically, check for manufacturer software.
Bluetooth Scanner:
- Power on the scanner and enable Bluetooth pairing mode (check the scanner manual for the procedure).
- Open your computer or mobile device's Bluetooth settings and search for available devices.
- Select the scanner from the list to pair. You may need to enter a pairing code (usually included in the scanner manual).
Wi-Fi Scanner:
- Connect the scanner to your network (refer to your scanner’s manual for detailed instructions).
- Ensure that the scanner and the device running Kladana are on the same network.
- Link the scanner's IP address in the scanner settings to the device or browser.
3. Testing the Scanner
Before you start scanning barcodes, please check if the scanner works correctly.
- Print the page with a barcode sample.
- Connect the scanner to the computer with a USB cable.
- Open any text editor such as Notepad.
- Place the text entry cursor in the edit field.
- Scan the barcode sample several times. The scanner is ready to work, if the barcode value appears in the line, and the cursor moves to the next line.
Then try it in Kladana
- Add a barcode or generate it for a product in Kladana and print it.
- Open any Kladana transaction (e.g. Receiving, Shipment).
- Focus the cursor in the barcode input field.
- Scan a barcode.
- The item corresponding to the barcode should appear in the document automatically.
4. Troubleshooting
If the scanner doesn’t work:
- Check that the device is properly connected and powered.
- Verify that the correct drivers are installed (for non-plug-and-play scanners).
- Test the scanner with other programs, such as Notepad, to confirm it outputs the barcode data.
- Ensure the barcodes scanned are recognized in Kladana. If needed, confirm the barcodes are linked to the items in your database.
Scanners
An example of a scanner that can be used with Kladana is the Honeywell 1470G.
To connect it with Kladana:
- Download the instructions.
- Recover default settings by scanning the barcode from page 9
- Scan the barcode for Keyboard Wedge from page 11
- If the Enter key is not pressed after scanning, configure the CR (carriage return) suffix to be added. For that scan barcode below.
