A Parametric Bill of Materials is a Bill of Materials for a single base product with product variants. Unlike a regular Bill of Materials, it allows you to define materials and consumption rates based on product variant characteristics.
When you use a Parametric Bill of Materials in production, the finished product is a specific variant of the base product. Materials are selected based on the characteristics of that variant.
Parametric Bills of Materials are useful when you produce different variants of the same product, such as products that vary in color, size, material, or configuration. Instead of creating a separate Bill of Materials for each product variant, you can manage all variants in a single Bill of Materials.
To work with Parametric Bills of Materials, go to Production → Bills of Materials. The Bills of Materials section displays both regular and parametric Bills of Materials. To show only one type, use Filters → Parametric BOM.

Create Parametric Bill of Materials
- In the Kladana workspace, select Production → Bills of Materials.
- Create a new Bill of Materials or open an existing one.
- Enter the Name and select a Routing. Select a Folder and add a comment if needed.
- On the Finished Products tab, add a base product with product variants. You can add only one base product.
- On the Raw Materials tab, add at least one material. Click Configure in the material row.
- In the window that opens, configure materials and quotas for the product variants. You can set specific materials and quotas or configure them based on the attributes that distinguish the product variants.
- To set a specific material or quota, select Set specific value and specify the material and/or its quota.
- To select a material based on an attribute, select Configure for attribute, choose the attribute, and specify the material for each relevant attribute value.
- To set a quota based on an attribute, select Configure for attribute, choose the attribute, and specify the quota for each relevant attribute value.
- If a quota is set to a specific value, you can change it directly in the material row without opening the Bill of Materials settings.
- Click Apply.
- Click Save.
If a material depends on an attribute, you cannot select a semi-finished product Bill of Materials as the material. If a material is set to a specific value, the semi-finished product Bill of Materials selector works as it does in a regular Bill of Materials, even if the quota depends on an attribute.
Attribute-based material configuration is not available for multiple products, products without variants, or individual product variants.
A Bill of Materials is considered parametric if at least one material or quota depends on an attribute. If no materials or quotas depend on attributes, the Bill of Materials remains regular.
Production Orders based on a Parametric Bill of Materials
You can create a Production Order based on a Parametric Bill of Materials.
In a Production Order created from a Parametric Bill of Materials, the finished product selection window displays all product variants that can be produced using this Bill of Materials.
Select the required product variant. The finished product, materials, and quotas are automatically added to the Production Order based on the selected variant’s attributes.
Working with Parametric Bills of Materials
In a Production Order, a Parametric Bill of Materials works like a regular Bill of Materials, but you should select a finished product variant before filling in the transaction.
If you select a Parametric Bill of Materials in an existing transaction, you can choose the finished product variant. Once selected, the materials and quotas are filled in automatically based on the Parametric Bill of Materials settings.
In a Production Task, you should select the finished product variant before starting the production process. Until a finished product variant is selected, the Parametric Bill of Materials details and the Raw Materials and Process Tracking tabs are unavailable.
Parametric Bills of Materials are also supported in Supply and Production workflows when a Bill of Materials and materials need to be selected for a specific product variant.
