What Is Production Operation?
A Production or Manufacturing Operation is a completed part of a production process or service (e.g., mixing of ingredients, cutting of fabric, printing custom designs). For each Production Operations, you can assign performers — employees or counterparties.
Production Operations are used for the following:
- Raw materials and cost control;
- Time tracking;
- Progress monitoring.
Routing is a sequence of Production Operations. First, create the Production Operations, and then use them to create a Routing. Different Routings can contain the same operations.
In the Kladana workspace, there is the Main Routing. It includes the Main Operation. You can edit it or create your own Routing.
Further, while creating a Bill of Materials, you should specify a Routing and indicate the materials and costs required for each operation.
Create Production Operation
- In the Kladana workspace, select Production → Production Operations.
- Click +Operation.
- Enter the operation Name.
- Add a Description if necessary.
- Select the warehouse from which the raw materials for the operation will be sourced. You can select a warehouse from the list or click +Create warehouse and add a new one. If no warehouse is selected, the default warehouse set in your profile settings will be used.
- Specify the Standard hour сost: the labor cost per hour for the Production Operation.
- To track the actual start and completion times of an operation in the Shop Floor app, turn on the Track actual time toggle.
- Manage task visibility and availability for performers:
- Turn on the Any employee can perform the production operation toggle if any employee should be able to view and take on all tasks in the operation. Then proceed to step 11.
- Leave the toggle off to assign specific performers and control which tasks they can see in the Shop Floor app. Then proceed to the next step.
- In the Performers block on the right, add performers for the production operation (Employees tab) or services (Counterparties tab).
- To select employees, on the Employees tab, click Select employees. Select the employees you want to add using the checkboxes, or click Select all from the list to add all employees. Click Select. Only the selected employees can be assigned to this operation in a Production Order. Only these employees will receive tasks for the operation in the Shop Floor App.
- Designate an employee as the Supervisor for the operation. A supervisor can select performers for the operation and assign tasks to them in the Shop Floor App.
- To select counterparties, on the Counterparties tab, click Select counterparties. Select the required counterparties from the list and click Select.
- If not all employees can perform tasks for the operation, in the block on the left to select which tasks will be visible to performers in the Shop Floor App: Own and free or Own only.
- Configure access to the operation if necessary. By default, the operation is accessible to the owner and the administrator.
- Click Save.
Create all the necessary Production Operations in this way.
Сreate Routing
- In the Kladana workspace, select Production → Routings.
- Click +Routing. Enter the Name and Description.
- Click Add another operation and select the Production Operations from the list.
- To edit a Production Operation, click on the icon
.
- You can change the order of the operations using the arrows
. The last Production Operation should be the operation that completes the production process. When it is completed, the finished product is sent to the stock.
- By default, Production Operations are executed in the sequence in which they are arranged. To perform any operations in a different order, specify the final operation of the process flow as the next operation in the Next Operation field.
- To perform all operations in a random order, assign the final operation of the process as the next stage for all operations. To do this, select Next operation → Set final stage as next stage for all stages.
- To set the default sequence of operations, select Next operation → Fill in next stages in consecutive order.
- Click Save.
There are more settings related to Production Operations and Routings you need to know:
- Edit (bulk editing included);

Summary
Сlearly identified and reflected in the production module, Production Operations allow tracking time costs, controlling the consumption of raw materials and energy resources, and obtaining a complete picture of the labor costs of employees.
Routings in Manufacturing help maintain the right sequence of operations. This is particularly convenient in cases of complex processes with a large number of small manufacturing operations that can be easily confused with one another.
